The Lubicz Commune, located in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, in the Toruń County, was first established in 1940 as Amtsbezirk Leibisch. After the war, it underwent numerous administrative changes, including transformations and dissolutions, before being reactivated on January 1, 1973. The seat of the commune is Lubicz Dolny, and according to data from 2019, it is home to over 20,000 people, making it the second-largest rural commune in the voivodeship in terms of population. The commune covers an area of 106.03 km², dominated by agricultural land (69%) and forests (18%). In terms of architecture, the commune boasts many registered monuments, such as the 14th-century Evangelical church in Grębocin, the wooden church of St. Ignatius Loyola, and the palace complex in Gronowo. The ruins of a 14th-century castle in Złotoria, along with well-preserved palaces and manor houses, reflect the region's rich history dating back to medieval times.
