Lubikowskie Lake

Lubikowskie Lake, located in the Lubuskie Voivodeship, in the Międzyrzecz County, within the administrative district of Przytoczna, is a moraine lake formed by the damming of glacial meltwater. It is characterized by a highly varied shoreline, overgrown with shrubs and trees, and surrounded by forests, meadows, and cultivated fields. The lake is relatively large, with a surface area of 314.7 hectares, a maximum depth of 35.5 meters, and a diverse bottom topography. Its most important tributary is the Męcinka River. The lake boasts a rich surroundings, and its vicinity is well-developed for tourism, featuring holiday resorts and a beach. The lake's waters are renowned for their high purity, attracting divers and water sports enthusiasts. Historically, until 1945, the lake was known by its German name, Liebucher See. In 1982, a cremation urn from the 14th century was discovered at the bottom of the lake, attesting to the historical significance of the area. The lake is also part of the Pszczewski Landscape Park and holds protected status under the Natura 2000 program, further highlighting its ecological value. Although it faced some water quality issues in the past, since 2016 the lake has been in very good ecological condition. An interesting feature is the existence of Konwaliowa Island, a nature reserve on the lake, which is home to ancient pedunculate oaks.
