wikipedia
Lubomierz is a village located in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, in the Limanowa County, known for its rich history and traditions. In the 16th century, the village was founded by Sebastian Lubomirski under Magdeburg law, which contributed to its development. The settlement was originally part of the parish in Niedźwiedź, and since 1919 it has belonged to the Parish of St. Joseph the Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary, whose wooden parish church is an important architectural feature of Lubomierz. In the 18th century, a glassworks operated in Lubomierz, and the surrounding areas also witnessed battles during World War I, associated with Piłsudski's Legions. After World War II, the region gained significance for tourism, becoming a base for trips to the Gorce National Park and the Beskid Wyspowy Mountains. The village offers numerous hiking trails and the "Ski Lubomierz" ski station. Lubomierz is inhabited by the Zagórzanie highlanders, and the local dialect and wooden architecture, including an 18th-century chapel, have been preserved in the tradition. An important cultural reference is Władysław Orkan, associated with this area, who described the harsh living conditions of Galician villages in his novel "W Roztokach." Interestingly, Karol Wojtyła, later Pope John Paul II, visited Lubomierz many times, staying in a forester's hut which is now called Papieżówka. The region combines a rich cultural heritage with the beauty of mountain nature, making it an attractive destination for both tourists and enthusiasts of local history.
