Kamienica is a rural municipality located in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, within the Limanowa County. It covers an area of 96.11 km², of which 32% is agricultural land and 64% is forest land. In 2004, the municipality was inhabited by 7,227 people. Kamienica lies in the picturesque basin of the Kamienica Gorczańska River, between the Gorce Mountains and the Beskid Wyspowy Range, making it an attractive tourist destination. The area features numerous wild mountain streams, healing mineral waters, and extensive coniferous forests. The highest peaks in the region are Gorc (1,228 m), Modyń (1,029 m), and Wielki Wierch (1,014 m). The municipality is also home to Papieżówka, situated within the boundaries of the Gorce National Park, which further attracts nature enthusiasts. In terms of tourism, Kamienica offers excellent skiing conditions, and its beautiful landscapes captivate visitors. The municipality borders several others, including Dobre, Łącko, Mszana Dolna, and Nowy Targ. Kamienica, as the municipal seat, is surrounded by four villages: Szczawa, Zalesie, Zbludza, and Zasadne. Until 1998, the municipality belonged to the Nowy Sącz Voivodeship, highlighting its long history and changing administrative boundaries. It is also worth noting that the region is rich in cultural traditions and local customs, which may be of interest to tourists and cultural researchers.
