wikipedia
The Ludwik Grohman Villa, located at Tylna Street 9/11 in Łódź, is a significant example of Italian Renaissance architecture in Poland. It was built in 1881 by Ludwik Grohman, the son of Traugott Grohman, as part of a larger factory complex. Designed by Hilary Majewski, the villa stands out for its elegant style and rich architectural details, including ornamental stuccowork, as well as painted and sculpted decorations. The villa gained further importance in 1894 when, following the marriage of Leon Grohman, it was expanded to create separate living spaces for both generations of the family. The ground-floor rooms, including the formal dining room, library, and ballroom, feature an irregular layout, giving them a unique character. Notable elements include the preserved original chandeliers and the lavish furnishings made from noble materials such as marble and various types of wood. The villa was originally surrounded by a garden, and today the area is part of the J. Kiliński Park. The villa also gained cinematic fame as one of the filming locations for Wojciech Marczewski’s movie "Escape from the 'Freedom' Cinema." This remarkable site combines rich history, culture, and architecture, making it an important landmark in Łódź.
