wikipedia
Lutomiersk is a town in Poland, located in the Łódź Voivodeship, within the Lutomiersk municipality, on the Ner River. It was granted town rights in 1274, and after losing them in 1870, it regained its municipal status in 2022. The town lies on the Łask Upland, near important trade routes, which significantly influenced its development and continuous settlement since the Bronze Age, with a rich archaeological heritage, including a burial ground of Norman Vikings. Lutomiersk is home to several historical monuments, such as an 18th-century parish church and a monastery complex of the Reformati order, now occupied by the Salesians, featuring a Baroque church dedicated to the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The town once had a thriving Jewish community, evidenced by a wooden synagogue renowned for its architecture. Lutomiersk has a rich history, including participation in the January Uprising and the German occupation in the summer of 1939, which led to the establishment of a ghetto and the extermination of the Jewish population. In 1951, the monastery burned down but was later rebuilt and restored to its educational function. The town also boasts a unique tram bridge on the Łódź–Konstantynów Łódzki line, a picturesque tram route, and other tourist attractions. The Salesian Music Schools operate here, and since 2012, a tourist tram line has been running. Notable figures associated with Lutomiersk include Rabbi Henoch Lewin, engineer Jarosław Janowski, and poet Perec Opoczyński. Although the town was bypassed by the industrial development of the region, it still preserves its historical and cultural heritage, attracting tourists and history enthusiasts.
