wikipedia
Mała Wieś, located in the Masovian Voivodeship, Płock County, is a rural municipality with its seat in the town of the same name. Its history dates back to 1435, when it was first mentioned as part of Niździn. Over the years, its name changed, with the most well-known form becoming Maławieś. The municipality is closely tied to the history of Masovia, and as a result, many villages in the area experienced changes in ownership, their stories woven into the broader historical context of Poland. Significant events took place near Mała Wieś, such as the capture of the stronghold in Orszymowo by Lithuanian forces in 1258. Over the centuries, these lands were subject to various political and administrative changes, from Prussian and Russian rule to the interwar period. In the 19th century, Mała Wieś became a place where peasants gained land ownership, which influenced the development of the local community and transformed their way of life. In 1898, a sugar refinery was established here, becoming a significant industrial facility that attracted residents and increased the population. Unfortunately, the refinery, like many other structures, was destroyed during both world wars, necessitating reconstruction in later years. From an architectural perspective, Mała Wieś is also a place where traces of the past remain in the form of monuments and traditional rural architecture. The municipality is home to approximately 6,000 people and consists of numerous village districts, such as Borzeń, Brody Duże, and Stare Święcice. It is also worth noting figures from local history who gained broader recognition, such as Klemens Nakwaski, the chamberlain of Wyszogród, and distinguished senators. An interesting fact is that in 1948, during the struggle against communism, one of the last units of the National Military Union was disbanded in Mała Wieś. Today, the municipality strives to blend traditional lifestyles with modernity, as seen in the development of infrastructure and agricultural industry. Thanks to this, Mała Wieś is a place that not only cherishes its cultural heritage but also successfully adapts to contemporary challenges.
