Małaszewicze is a settlement in the Lublin Voivodeship, within Biała Podlaska County, in the municipality of Terespol, located 9 km from the Polish-Belarusian border. With a population of 1,664 in 2011, the town is known as one of Europe's largest transshipment hubs, where goods are transferred from broad-gauge wagons (1520 mm) to standard-gauge wagons (1435 mm). Małaszewicze lies along major railway lines and the E30 road route, making it a key transit point, especially for goods from China. Historically, the area has been inhabited since the 16th century, and the modern settlement was officially registered in 1986, following its development after the opening of a transshipment port in 1949. Małaszewicze was also home to a significant military airfield from 1936 to 1952, which played a crucial role during World War II. Architecturally, the settlement combines multi-family housing complexes and single-family homes, with infrastructure developed through the construction of new roads and utility connections. Culturally, the residents are predominantly Roman Catholic, and the town has educational institutions such as the Kornel Makuszyński Primary School Complex. An interesting fact is that Małaszewicze hosts the largest customs-free zone in Poland, attracting various logistics and transportation companies. Furthermore, the town's history reflects continuous adaptation and development, which continues to this day, with local authorities planning further investments in infrastructure.
