The Main Campus of the University of Warsaw, located at Krakowskie Przedmieście, is an area exceptionally rich in history and architecture. Its development began in 1765–1766 with the adaptation of the Kazimierz Palace, a former royal residence, for the needs of the Knight's School. In the 19th century, the university's complex of buildings expanded with new structures, such as the Fine Arts Pavilion and the Auditorium Building. After the fall of the November Uprising, the University was closed, and its traditions were taken over by the Real Gymnasium, which in 1862 transformed into the Main School of Warsaw. In the 20th century, the campus buildings suffered destruction during World War II, but many of them were rebuilt, including the Kazimierz Palace and the Rector's Office Building. The campus is not only a place of education but also a cultural center with monuments, squares, cafés, and a professors' club. The modern campus, listed in the register of monuments, encompasses nearly 500 years of history, with the Kazimierz Palace and the Auditorium Maximum being key elements of this space, offering modern facilities and academic events. In recent years, the university has been expanding in the Powiśle district, and development plans focus on strengthening these areas as an academic quarter. Also noteworthy are the diverse events held on campus, highlighting its role as a venue for cultural and intellectual gatherings.
