The Main Library of the Warsaw School of Economics, established in 1906, is the largest library in Poland specializing in economic sciences. Its history is closely tied to the development of the university. Initially, it held just 820 volumes, but by 1917, its collection had grown to 15,000 items. In 1918, Professor Konstanty Krzeczkowski became its director and contributed significantly to the expansion of the collections. After World War II, it was the first library in Warsaw to reopen its doors to readers in February 1945. In 1950, the library was nationalized and transformed into the Main Library of the Central School of Planning and Statistics. It gained the status of the Central Economic Library in 1979. In the following years, the library began computerizing its collections. Architecturally, the library building was designed by Jan Witkiewicz Koszczyc and features a two-story reading room with high ceilings and Art Deco domes. Culturally, the library boasts a collection of over one million volumes, including journals from various fields. An interesting fact is that despite World War II, 96% of the library's collection survived. In 2010, the building was added to the register of historical monuments. The library offers a wide range of services, providing access to its collections 24/7.
