Malechowo is a rural commune in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, located in the southwestern part of the Sławno County, with its administrative seat in the village of Malechowo. The commune covers an area of 226.52 km², which constitutes 21.7% of the county's total area. At the end of 2019, the commune had a population of 6,264, ranking it 57th in the voivodeship in terms of population and accounting for 11.4% of the county's total inhabitants. Administratively, the commune consists of 27 village councils (sołectw), including Bartolino, Białęcino, Darskowo, and Słowenin. The commune has a rich history, having been part of the Koszalin Voivodeship from 1975 to 1998. Between 2016 and 2021, the commune experienced growth in budget revenues, reaching 43.63 million PLN in 2021. Malechowo and its surroundings are known for their numerous natural attractions, including the Grabowa River, which is accessible for kayakers and is part of the Natura 2000 network. The commune boasts rich biodiversity in both flora and fauna, including numerous bird and plant species. Forests cover 31% of the area, while agricultural land accounts for 60%. Malechowo also offers tourist attractions such as hiking, cycling, and kayaking trails. The history of transportation in the region dates back to the late 19th century when railway lines were constructed. Currently, the commune is served by national and regional roads, as well as one railway station in Karwice. An interesting fact is the preservation of the natural character of the Grabowa River, which creates ideal conditions for water sports, despite the threat of river pollution. Malechowo combines natural richness with local culture, making it an interesting destination on the map of Poland.
