The Międzyrzec Podlaski Commune, located in the Lublin Voivodeship within Biała County, consists of 35 localities that form 33 village councils (sołectwa). Its administrative seat is the town of Międzyrzec Podlaski. Historically, from 1975 to 1998, the commune was part of the Biała Podlaska Voivodeship. It covers an area of 261.58 km², of which 66% is agricultural land and 26% is forested. In 2004, its population was 10,366 inhabitants.
The local economy is primarily based on agriculture, including the production of animal feed, cattle breeding, pig farming, poultry rearing, as well as the cultivation of vegetables and fruits. Around 230 businesses operate within the commune, covering trade, transport services, gastronomy, and agri-food processing.
In terms of education, there are 9 primary schools and 3 lower secondary schools (gimnazja). The commune also has a Municipal Public Library with branches in several localities. Culturally, the commune is active through various local initiatives and the activities of Roman Catholic parishes, which play an important role in community life. There are three main parishes and numerous chapels.
The commune cooperates with neighboring municipalities, fostering cultural exchange and the development of local initiatives. An interesting aspect is its proximity to towns such as Biała Podlaska and Międzyrzec Podlaski, which gives the commune significant development potential within the region.
