Gmina Mielnik, formerly known as Gmina Radziwiłłówka, is a picturesque rural municipality located in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, within the Siemiatycze County, with its administrative seat in the village of Mielnik. Its history dates back much further, and between 1975 and 1998, it was administratively part of the Białystok Voivodeship. The municipality covers an area of 196.24 km², of which 35% is agricultural land and 59% is forested. This is an area rich in natural assets, making it attractive to both residents and tourists. Within the municipality, there is an open-pit chalk mine, highlighting its economic significance, and according to 2022 data, Mielnik ranks among the wealthiest municipalities in Poland, holding 8th place. Demographically, in 2004, the municipality was inhabited by 2,708 people, indicating a small but diverse population. The municipality also includes a rich array of villages, such as Mielnik, Homoty, Niemirów, and Radziwiłłówka, as well as smaller settlements, reflecting a dispersed settlement structure. The municipality borders Belarus, which adds to its unique character and influences its cultural diversity. It is also distinguished by having awarded honorary citizenship to Henryk Musiałowicz.
