Chrobry Oak, also known as the Devil of Venice Oak, is a natural monument located in the village of Recz in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, within the Rogowo municipality. This pedunculate oak stands at an impressive height of 24.5 meters with a circumference of 780 cm, and its age is estimated to be around 850 years. The tree thrives in favorable soil conditions, which contribute to its abundant fruiting every year. Chrobry Oak was the oldest tree in the former Bydgoszcz Voivodeship and was designated a natural monument by the Regulation of the Bydgoszcz Voivode on July 1, 1991. In local culture, Chrobry Oak is steeped in a rich legendary heritage. It is said that in June, during the Kupala Night, traditional folk rituals were held beneath its branches. Other legends claim that Mikołaj Nałęcz, known as the Devil of Venice, was turned into this tree as a result of his wicked deeds. Chrobry Oak is an important element of both the natural environment and the cultural heritage of the region, blending historical and folkloric aspects. Its presence encourages exploration of the local traditions and history associated with this mighty tree.
