Mikołów County, established in 1999 as part of the administrative reform, is located in southwestern Poland at the border of the Silesian-Kraków Upland and the Oświęcim Basin, within the Upper Silesian Industrial Region. The county seat is Mikołów, which, along with Łaziska Górne and Orzesze, forms the urban municipalities, while Ornontowice and Wyry are rural municipalities. Demographically, the population was 93,353 in 2010, and according to data from 2019, it increased to 98,990, reaching 99,211 in 2020. The history of the region dates back to before 1954, when these localities belonged to Pszczyna County, and later to Tychy County, with the exception of Ornontowice, which was incorporated into Rybnik County in 1960. The architecture of Mikołów County reflects the historical and industrial influences of the region, including numerous industrial buildings and monuments related to Silesian culture. Culturally, the county is a place where Upper Silesian traditions are strongly present, and various cultural events attract both residents and tourists. An interesting fact is that the area of the county lies on the Land of Pszczyna and bears traces of the rich history of Upper Silesia, making it an interesting place to explore for both history and architecture enthusiasts. It borders important cities and counties, further highlighting its strategic location.
