Mikołajki

Mikołajki is an urban-rural municipality located in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, within Mrągowo County, with its administrative seat in the town of Mikołajki. The municipality has a long history, dating back to pre-war times, and between 1975 and 1998, it was part of the Suwałki Voivodeship. According to data from December 2006, the municipality was inhabited by 8,410 people, and by the end of 2019, this number had decreased to 8,131. Mikołajki covers an area of 256.41 km², of which 48% is agricultural land and 22% is forest land, highlighting the region's natural richness. The municipality has a tourist character, with numerous attractions related to Lake Śniardwy and picturesque landscapes. The municipality includes many villages, such as Baranowo, Cudnochy, and Faszcze, as well as smaller towns and forest settlements. Mikołajki is known for its local traditions, and its architecture reflects a blend of regional styles. The municipality is surrounded by other municipalities, such as Miłki, Mrągowo, Orzysz, and Ruciane-Nida, fostering cooperation and cultural exchange.
