Ministry of Sport and Tourism

The Ministry of Sport and Tourism (MSiT) is a Polish government body that has existed since 2021 and previously from 2007 to 2019. Its headquarters are located in the Blank Palace in Warsaw, a building with a rich architectural history, associated with numerous political and cultural events. MSiT supports the Minister of Physical Culture and Tourism, handling a wide range of activities, from sports and physical rehabilitation to tourism development and regulation of the tourism market. The minister's main tasks include promoting physical activity and supporting competitive sports, youth sports, and sports for people with disabilities. The history of the ministry dates back to the 1920s, when the first institutions responsible for physical culture were established, with further organizational changes taking place during the People's Republic of Poland and after 1991. These changes often involved shifting responsibility for sports and tourism between different ministries. The modern MSiT includes numerous departments, such as the Tourism Department and the Competitive Sports Department, and also oversees sports centers and research institutes. Interestingly, the ministry has undergone numerous reforms, and its name has changed depending on political circumstances. The most recent return to an independent ministry took place in October 2021, when Kamil Bortniczuk became minister, and the ministry's activities once again focused on sports and tourism. MSiT is a key component of Poland's sports and tourism system, supporting the development of these fields in the country.
