Monument of Electio Viritim

The Electio Viritim Monument, located in the Wola district of Warsaw, commemorates the Wola election field, where the nobility elected Polish kings according to the principle of *electio viritim*. Its architectural form features a tall column with a granite shaft, sourced from the demolition of the Kronenberg Palace, which burned down in 1939. A distinctive element of the monument is the bronze crown that tops the column. On the western side, there is a bas-relief depicting figures from the painting *Election of Stanisław August* by Bernardo Bellotto, adding artistic and cultural value. Additionally, an informational plaque is mounted on the column shaft. The entire structure is surrounded by a stone circle with informational tablets that provide historical context. The monument is the work of sculptor Stanisław Michalik, and its construction was initiated by the Wola Branch of the Warsaw Friends Society. Interestingly, the monument itself and the surrounding sites of royal elections hold immense significance in Polish history, symbolizing the unique process of electing rulers.
