wikipedia
Mount Czcibora is a moraine hill with an elevation of 54.5 meters above sea level, located in the Cedynia Karpaty mountain range, approximately 4 km southwest of Cedynia. A 270-step stone staircase leads to the summit. The hill is named after Czcibor, the brother of Mieszko I, who played a key role in the Battle of Cedynia by commanding one-third of the troops. According to the Chronicle of Thietmar, Czcibor attacked the forces of Margrave Hodo, contributing to the Polish victory. Archaeologist Władysław Filipowiak discovered hearths in the nearby area dating back to 920–970, which may indicate the presence of Czcibor's troops in the region. In 1972, to mark the thousandth anniversary of the battle, a 15-meter "Monument to the Polish Victory on the Oder" was erected on the hilltop, depicting a stylized eagle. It was designed by Czesław Wronka and Stanisław Biżek. At the foot of the hill, there is a mosaic by Jerzy Chmielewski and Kazimierz Błonka, illustrating scenes from the Battle of Cedynia. Informational plaques in Polish, Russian, English, and German are also available, highlighting the historical and cultural significance of the site. Mount Czcibora is an important historical and tourist destination, combining monumental architecture with rich history, making it a notable attraction for visitors to the region.
