wikipedia
The Mount of Olives in Bolesławów, formerly known as Ölberg, is a unique group of 19th-century stone sculptures depicting the sleeping apostles and the praying Christ. The sculptures are located at an altitude of 647 meters above sea level at the northern end of the Zawada Ridge, in the municipality of Stronie Śląskie. Their creation is attributed to the Staromoravská Trail, a historic communication route leading to Moravia, which was an important place of prayer. The sculptures, created in a naive style from sandstone, include five life-sized figures: a centrally placed angel with a chalice, a kneeling Christ, and three sleeping apostles. In the past, the figures were polychromed and arranged in a semicircle on a leveled terrain. The paintings were restored in 1873 by an artist from Lądek-Zdrój, Reimann, while a contemporary restoration took place between 2005 and 2007 under the care of artist Ewa Bejer, who recreated the missing details. The ceremonial reopening after the restoration took place on July 7, 2007. The site is surrounded by a wooden fence and old trees, and nearby there is a stone crucifix and benches for pilgrims. The Mount of Olives is also a viewpoint offering a panorama of the Morawka and Biała Lądecka valleys and the surrounding mountains, such as the Śnieżnik Massif and the Golden Mountains. The site is accessible via the yellow trail leading from Bolesławów to the Staromoravská Pass. Nearby, on the western and northeastern slopes of the mountain, there are four ski lifts of the Kamienica Ski Station, making the area attractive in winter as well. The Mount of Olives is regarded as a significant element of the region's cultural heritage, combining architectural, historical, and touristic values.
