wikipedia
Nysa City Park is a historic complex covering an area of 42 hectares, situated in a picturesque location between the city center and the Zamłynie district. It is rich in diverse fauna and flora, and its history dates back to the 18th century. Originally, the area consisted of marshy meadows, which were gradually drained and transformed into a park modeled after an English landscape garden. In the 19th century, the park gained new avenues lined with trees such as poplars, maples, and ashes. At the heart of the park lie two ponds – Swan Pond and Gondola Pond – which once served as recreational spots and are now habitats for rare plant and bird species. Swan Pond was created in the location of a former moat, and at its center lies an island that serves as a nesting ground for mute swans. The park is characterized by an extensive water system, including canals and ponds, though many of the original hydrotechnical features are now neglected. The eastern part of the park is more developed and accessible to visitors, featuring promenades and pathways perfect for strolls, while the western section, known as Wilson Park, resembles a natural riparian forest dominated by gray alders. The park is home to numerous ancient trees, including a monumental pedunculate oak, as well as diverse plant species, some of which are rare and protected. Nysa City Park also contains remnants of former fortifications, such as the Water Fort. The park's infrastructure is limited, with a lack of benches, playgrounds, or food service points, which may affect the comfort of visitors. Despite this, the park remains a valuable recreational space, blending nature, history, and culture in one of Nysa's most beautiful corners.
