Museum of Artistic Books

The Museum of the Art of Printing in Łódź, established in 1993 by the Correspondance des Arts Foundation, is located in the historic villa of Henryk Grohman, situated within the post-industrial textile complex of Scheibler-Grohman. The villa, with its hundred-year history, was once a cultural hub hosting concerts and gatherings of artists. The museum focuses on promoting the art of the book and educating in techniques such as printing and bookbinding, addressing the cognitive needs of society. Its collections include a variety of objects, from artworks related to the art of the book, through unique artist's books, to monuments of printing technology and collections of manuscripts. The museum also gathers printing machines that enable the production of artist's books without technical limitations. It collaborates with artists and art schools, as well as with foreign institutions, to promote Polish book art worldwide. In the history of the Correspondance des Arts publishing house, which deals with the publication of artist's books, three stages can be distinguished, including the moment when the Tryzno family took over its leadership, contributing to the development of a unique approach to the artist's book. The museum has received numerous awards and distinctions, including badges of merit for culture, highlighting its importance in Polish cultural heritage. An interesting fact is the unique set of matrices and machines from the Warsaw Type Foundry, which are elements of Polish material heritage in printing. The museum not only collects and exhibits its collections but also conducts conservation and educational activities aimed at developing artistic passions among youth and professional creators. In this way, the Museum of the Art of Printing not only protects cultural achievements but also becomes a creative place in Łódź, connecting the past with modernity.
