The Museum of the History of Medicine, full name Museum of the Faculty of Medicine of the Jagiellonian University Collegium Medicum, is the oldest museum in Poland dedicated to medical sciences. It was established in 1900 on the initiative of Professor Walery Jaworski. The museum is located in the House of the Medical Society at 4 Radziwiłłowska Street, where it was officially opened in 1992. Previously, the collections survived various challenges, including the occupation, thanks to being secured in an unsuitable but safe location. The museum boasts rich collections, including old prints, documents, commemorative medals, medical instruments, and portraits of prominent figures in medicine. Among the most valuable exhibits are surgical instruments and plaster casts from the pathoanatomical cabinet of Professor Bierkowski, as well as a collection related to the history of diseases from the clinic of Professor Maciej Józef Brodowicz. An interesting fact is that as early as 1901, the museum had over 1,200 exhibits, and by 1905, the number had grown to 4,617. The museum plays an important role in education and the dissemination of knowledge about the history of medicine, offering visits by prior arrangement. Its collections are valuable both for their historical significance and their origin, mainly from donations by individuals associated with the Jagiellonian University.
