Myślenice

Myślenice is a town located 30 km south of Kraków, on the Raba River, in the Beskid Mountains region. Established in 1342, it neighbored important trade routes, which contributed to its development. The central point of the town is the market square, laid out in 1458, featuring the oldest townhouses, including the "Oboński Tenement House." On the square, there are two significant elements: the cast-iron fountain "Tereska" from the late 19th century and the statue of Saint Florian from the 18th century. The parish church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, located by the square, is a Gothic structure from 1466, enriched over the years with Renaissance and Baroque elements. The church is renowned for its miraculous image of the Myślenice Mother of God, which, according to tradition, originated from Rome. Also worth noting is the Greek House, a centuries-old building that once hosted Armenian merchants and now houses the Regional Museum. Myślenice has a rich cultural heritage, and the majority of its residents are Catholics who participate in various religious communities. The town also thrives in sports, with numerous football clubs and other athletic sections. Myślenice is known for cultural events organized by the Myślenice Center of Culture and Sports, where concerts and literary meetings take place. The town collaborates with several partner cities, fostering cultural exchange and the development of local initiatives. Historically, Myślenice played an important defensive role in the past, hosted visits by rulers and intellectuals, and its history is intertwined with many key regional events, such as the Swedish Deluge and World War II.
