National Stadium

Stadion Narodowy is a station on the Warsaw Metro, serving line M2 and planned as an interchange station for the future line M3. It is located in the Praga-Północ district, near important landmarks such as the National Stadium and Port Praski. Its history dates back to 2005, when the decision was made to build the second metro line, and the conceptual design was completed in 2008. Construction began in 2011 using top-down methods. The station, designed by Andrzej Chołdzyński and featuring artistic elements by Wojciech Fangor, was opened on March 8, 2015. Architecturally, Stadion Narodowy stands out with its modern design, dominated by the color green. The station consists of two underground levels: the mezzanine at level -1, which houses commercial spaces and technical rooms, and the platforms at level -2. It is the largest station on the central section of the second metro line, with 120-meter-long platforms designed to also accommodate the future M3 line. An interesting fact is that during construction, artifacts from World War II were uncovered, including ammunition and preserved fragments of historical embankments. The station features a system of skylights with planters and vegetation, allowing natural light to enter and serving as decorative elements. Stadion Narodowy not only serves as a transportation hub but also plays a cultural role, providing easy access to sports and cultural events held at nearby venues. Since its opening, the station has gained popularity, recording significant passenger traffic, especially during major events. Its modern architecture and integration with Warsaw's transport system make it a key point in the city's infrastructure. It is also worth noting that the station is used for emergency service drills, highlighting its importance not only for daily passenger transport but also in terms of safety.
