Praga-Północ

Praga-Północ is one of the 18 districts of Warsaw, located on the right bank of the Vistula River. Its name comes from a term referring to a burnt-out area, indicating the historical conditions of settlement in this location. The district borders Śródmieście, Żoliborz, Targówek, Białołęka, and Praga-Południe. In 1648, Praga was granted city rights, but in 1791 it was incorporated into Warsaw. After World War II, the district was divided into Praga-Południe and Praga-Północ. Over the years, the boundaries of Praga-Północ have changed, and it now encompasses historical areas with diverse architecture. The district has retained its original character, and many buildings dating back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries survived the wartime destruction. The central point of Praga-Północ is Plac Wileński, around which important sites are located, such as the Warszawa Wileńska railway station and the Church of St. Mary Magdalene. Targowa Street serves as the district's axis, lined with historic tenement houses and Różycki's Bazaar. It is certainly worth noting Stara Praga, home to the Cathedral of the Warsaw-Praga Diocese and the industrial complex in Szmulowizna, now transformed into the Centrum Praskie Koneser. In recent years, Praga-Północ has gained popularity, becoming a hub for art galleries, trendy eateries, and artist studios. Ząbkowska Street has been recognized as a "magical place," highlighting the growing interest in this part of Warsaw. The areas of Port Praski and the Municipal Zoo also hold significant investment potential. The district also boasts local media that promote Praga's culture, such as "Wiadomości Kocham Pragę," "Przegląd Praski," and the local online radio station "radiopraga.pl." Praga-Północ combines rich history, diverse architecture, and dynamic cultural development, making it an intriguing destination for both residents and tourists.
