Pokrzywna, located in the Opole Voivodeship in the Opawskie Mountains, is a village with a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages. Formerly known as Dzików or Wilcza Dolina (Wolf Valley), the area witnessed significant historical events and the development of trade routes that crossed the region. In the 15th century, the settlement was gifted to the town of Prudnik, and over time, particularly during the 18th and 19th centuries, it grew thanks to forestry and cottage weaving. Later, tourism gained importance, leading to the construction of inns and guesthouses. Pokrzywna features historic residential buildings and a watchtower that now serves as a youth hostel. Surrounded by beautiful nature and situated within the Opawskie Mountains Landscape Park, the village is a popular destination for tourists. Various cultural events take place here annually, including the International Chess Tournament and festivals related to the local legend of the Rosenau settlement. Pokrzywna is also well-connected by road and bus, making it an easily accessible retreat. The interactive Rosenau Lost City Amusement and Education Park is a modern tourist attraction in the village, and local agritourism farms offer accommodation and dining, drawing visitors with their offerings. Known as the "Silesian Switzerland," the village boasts numerous hiking and cycling trails, making it an attractive destination for nature lovers and those seeking active recreation.
