wikipedia
Nowa Wieś Wielka is a municipal village in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, located within the agglomeration areas of Bydgoszcz and Inowrocław. Situated in the historic region of Kuyavia and surrounded by the Bydgoszcz Forest, the village boasts a rich history dating back to prehistoric times when settlement first emerged in the region. The first recorded mention of Nowa Wieś appeared in 1489, when it was part of the royal domain within the Bydgoszcz starostwo. During the 18th century, the village was engaged in agriculture as well as the production of tar and potash. The period of the Partitions of Poland brought an influx of German settlers, which influenced the demographic and cultural structure of the village. During World War II, Nowa Wieś Wielka was the site of German repression against the Polish population, including arrests and executions. After the war, the village was incorporated into Poland, and its inhabitants of German origin were displaced. Architecturally, the parish church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary stands out as the oldest object registered in the heritage monuments list. The village offers well-developed infrastructure, including a school, kindergarten, and a cultural center, as well as numerous businesses. An interesting feature is the Fuel Base Complex No. 2, one of the largest such facilities in Poland, along with numerous tourist trails, including the "Wolnościowy" hiking trail leading into the Bydgoszcz Forest. Local culture is thriving in Nowa Wieś Wielka, with active artistic groups and social organizations. The village is an example of dynamic transformation and integration with its natural surroundings, making it an interesting place both to live in and to visit.
