wikipedia
A small town in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, Nowe boasts a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages. It was first mentioned in 1266 and received its town rights in 1350. Situated on the high bank of the Vistula River within the ethnic and cultural boundaries of Kociewie, the town benefits from a favorable transportation location, which has contributed to its development. Gothic and Baroque elements dominate its architecture, as evidenced by preserved monuments such as the 14th-century castle, defensive walls, and the Church of St. Matthew. The Old Town, which retains its medieval urban layout, is particularly noteworthy. Nowe had a strong commercial tradition, especially in the 16th century, though its significance declined due to the Swedish invasions and the Partitions of Poland. In the 20th century, despite numerous challenges, the town was rebuilt after World War II. An interesting historical event is the 1906 strike of Polish children, which was part of broader protests against Germanization. The town also features well-developed educational, sports, and tourist infrastructure, with numerous cycling and hiking trails. Its residents demonstrate a strong sense of national identity, reflected in contemporary cultural events and partnerships with cities in Germany and Ukraine.
