Nidzica is an urban-rural municipality in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, with its seat in the town of Nidzica. Between 1975 and 1998, the municipality belonged to the Olsztyn Voivodeship, and according to data from 2008, it is inhabited by 22,600 people, of whom 15,600 are residents of the town. The municipality covers an area of 378.88 km², of which 38% is agricultural land and 49% is forest, making it an important agricultural and forestry region, accounting for 39.44% of the area of Nidzica County. Nidzica is home to various nature reserves, such as the landscape-geomorphological reserve Źródła rzeki Łyny (Sources of the Łyna River), which protects the river's sources and the phenomenon of spring erosion, and the Jezioro Orłowo Małe reserve, focused on the protection of the European pond turtle. The region also includes the Koniuszanka I and Koniuszanka II reserves, aimed at preserving unique forms of inanimate nature and a picturesque stretch of the Koniuszanka River. Nidzica is surrounded by several smaller municipalities, including Jedwabno and Olsztynek, which fosters regional cooperation. Architecturally, the municipality boasts historic buildings that testify to its rich history.
