Nowe Skalmierzyce is an urban-rural municipality in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, within Ostrów County, with its administrative seat located in the village of Skalmierzyce. The municipality, which has existed in its current form since 1975, also includes a town of the same name, but its administrative headquarters are situated in the village. In 2021, the municipality had a population of 15,625, accounting for 9.7% of the total population of Ostrów County. The area of the municipality is 125.42 km², and the terrain elevation ranges between 105 and 147 meters above sea level. The municipality is located on the Kalisz Upland, in the Prosna River basin, which influences its landscape and natural conditions. The region includes protected areas, such as the Prosna Valley, known for the nesting of various bird species. Forests cover a small portion of the municipality's area (3.1%), but water bodies, including the Prosna River and its tributaries, are significant elements of the local ecology. A key moment in the municipality's history was the administrative reform of 1975 and subsequent territorial changes, including the transfer of some villages to Kalisz. The local economy is based on the furniture, metal, agri-food, and service-trade industries. Residents benefit from a well-developed transport network, including national roads and railway connections. Since 2018, the mayor of the municipality has been Jerzy Łukasz Walczak. The municipality is distinguished in various rankings, receiving awards for social and educational activation, as well as for economic activity. An interesting fact is that Nowe Skalmierzyce is one of only two municipalities in Poland where the administrative seat is not located in a town, and its name refers to the locality and its history.
