Nowe Warpno

Nowe Warpno, located in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship on the Szczecin Lagoon, is a town with a rich history and unique architecture. It received its town rights around 1295, and its origins date back to the settlement of Wapene, mentioned as early as 1184. Over the centuries, the town was divided among various states, including Pomerania, Sweden, and Prussia, which strongly influenced its development and character. In the 18th century, Nowe Warpno experienced a period of prosperity, becoming a center for fishing and tourism, which lasted until World War II. The town's architecture reflects its history—landmarks include the town hall from 1697, the Gothic Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and half-timbered houses from the 18th and 19th centuries. Additionally, monuments such as the Fisherman's Monument and the Hans Hartig Monument, created by sculptor Bohdan Ronin-Walknowski, can be found in Nowe Warpno. Tourist attractions include beaches and trails through the forested areas of the Wkrzańska Forest. In 2011, the Sailors' Alley was established, enriching the town's offerings for visitors. Although Nowe Warpno is not an industrial center, fishing and services dominate its economy. Transportation to the town is facilitated by roads and ships of the white fleet, which supports its growing tourism industry. Currently, the town is the seat of the municipality, and its mayor, since 2018, is Jarosław Burba. With each passing year, Nowe Warpno is becoming an increasingly attractive destination for tourists seeking both history and relaxation in a beautiful coastal setting.
