Nowy Świat-Uniwersytet Station is one of the key links in the central section of the second line of the Warsaw Metro. Located in the Śródmieście district, right next to Świętokrzyska Street, it was built at a depth of 23 meters, making it the deepest station in the Warsaw Metro. Its construction began in 2011, and it was opened to the public on March 8, 2015. Architecturally, the station stands out for its modern design, with purple as the dominant color. The platform features unique graphics by Wojciech Fangor and 17 escalator runs. The station is also characterized by its distinctive three-level structure, with ticket halls and technical rooms on level -1, escalators on level -2, and the passenger platform on level -3. From a cultural perspective, the station has gained exceptional significance as a favorite spot for passengers and has also served as inspiration for Bartek Biedrzycki's post-apocalyptic novel, in which people fight for dominance in underground Warsaw after a nuclear war. The station and its surroundings, which are home to important institutions such as the Ministry of Finance, the National Bank of Poland, and the University of Warsaw, hold great historical and social importance. Interestingly, despite initial project challenges related to the location of entrances and the layout of underground utilities, the station's construction was completed successfully. During excavations, remnants of old cellars were discovered, adding an extra layer to the area's archaeological value. Additionally, the station has become a highly popular space, recording significant increases in passenger numbers during cultural events such as the 2015 UEFA Europa League final. After the station's opening, the Warsaw Public Transport Authority planned to launch a Passenger Service Point, which opened on January 4, 2016, highlighting the continuous development and importance of this location as a transportation hub in Warsaw.
