wikipedia
Ołtaszyn is a housing estate located in the southern part of Wrocław, bordering the village of Wysoka to the south and Wojszyce to the east. Its history dates back to the Bronze and Iron Ages, with the first known record of the settlement originating from the year 1204. Ołtaszyn, referred to in historical documents under various names, has retained its medieval layout as a two-street linear village. In the 19th century, a so-called People's House (Dom Ludowy) was established here, which became a local cultural center hosting various artistic events, including punk concerts. The estate is characterized by great architectural diversity, with prominent examples of residential buildings designed by Ernst May, known for their early modernist style. An important historical monument is the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which was built in the 13th century and features Gothic architecture. The estate is served by public transportation and includes institutions such as a clinic and a kindergarten. Situated on a moraine plateau, Ołtaszyn was conducive to the development of horticulture, and numerous greenhouses built in the 1980s have been converted into wholesale warehouses and shops. Ołtaszyn remains a place with a rich history and dynamically evolving architecture, functioning as an attractive residential location for the inhabitants of Wrocław.
