The Bolko Oak is an exceptional pedunculate oak, approximately 650 years old, growing in the former manor park in Hniszów, Lublin Province. This tree is considered one of the largest in Poland, reaching a circumference of 870 cm and a height of 29 m. Its impressive crown measures 34 x 30 m, adding to its extraordinary charm and majesty. The Bolko Oak was placed under protection as a natural monument in 1959, and its history dates back to times when, according to legend, it was said to have been a resting place for Bolesław I the Brave during his expedition to Kyiv—though this is untrue due to the oak's age. Conservation and crown stabilization measures, such as sanitary pruning and dynamic cabling, are carried out to maintain the tree. In 2016, the Bolko Oak was a candidate for the European Tree of the Year title, standing out as the only tree from Poland. Its rich history, unique features, and significant natural value make the Bolko Oak not only a tourist attraction but also an important part of the region's cultural heritage.
