wikipedia
Obrowiec is a village located in the Lublin Voivodeship, within Hrubieszów County, and is part of the Horodło municipality. It has approximately 402 inhabitants and covers an area of 769.69 hectares. The village borders Brodzica, Trzeszczany, Werbkowice, Nowosiółki, and Hrubieszów. In the southern part of the area flows the Huczwa River and its tributary, the Białka. Obrowiec lies on the border of three mesoregions, characterized by diverse terrain, and its surroundings feature unique ecosystems, such as European bee-eater habitats. The name of the village most likely derives from the word "bobry" (beavers), linked to the historical presence of these animals in the river, although there are also theories about its origin from owners or Avar settlers. The history of Obrowiec is marked by 20th-century events, such as population migrations after World War II and reactions to the agricultural policies of the Polish People's Republic. In the 1960s and 1970s, the village began to develop, with shops and infrastructure being established, and modern technologies like television being introduced in the primary school. Currently, Obrowiec is an agricultural area with a weak demographic structure and a tendency toward further outmigration. Several organizations operate in the village, such as the Volunteer Fire Department (OSP) and the Rural Housewives' Circle, which engage residents in various social activities. An interesting fact is the history of the local football club, Wenard Obrowiec, which existed from 1980 to 1994. Despite its rural character, the village plans to develop tourism, which may lead to changes in the livelihoods of its inhabitants by increasing the share of the service and trade sectors. The architecture of Obrowiec consists mainly of brick buildings, with some wooden houses, all constructed after World War II. Over the years, the village has undergone transformation, and younger generations are now striving for its development, as seen in the activities of the Obrowiec Village Development Association.
