wikipedia
Odolany is a former noble village, now an area within the Municipal Information System in the Wola district of Warsaw. After Szczecin was incorporated into Poland, the name Odolany was given to one of the housing estates in the Warszewo district. The history of Odolany dates back to 1431, when it became the property of the deans of the Warsaw Collegiate Church of St. John. In 1528, the village had five łans (a historical unit of land measurement), and by 1580, it was partially ecclesiastical. The destruction of the Warsaw Chapter's records in 1944 made it difficult to accurately reconstruct the history of Odolany. The name derives from the personal name Odolan, suggesting that the area belonged to the descendants of an individual with that name. Between 1886 and 1890, a fort was built near Odolany as part of the Warsaw Fortress. In the early 20th century, the Warszawa Szczęśliwice stopping point and the Włochy marshalling yard were established. In 1942, as a result of German actions, a tragic event occurred—the hanging of Pawiak prisoners, which was later commemorated with a Tchorek plaque. After World War II, the Waryński 2 Plants and the General Świerczewski Precision Products Factory were located in Odolany. Today, a large part of Odolany is occupied by tracks, sidings, and PKP (Polish State Railways) buildings, making this location key for transporting aggregates and construction materials to Warsaw. Numerous housing investments have been implemented in the areas of Jana Kazimierza and Ordona streets, indicating the development of this district. Architecturally, Odolany is characterized by industrial buildings as well as new residential investments, reflecting Warsaw's dynamic transformation. Culturally, historical events such as the martyrdom of prisoners and the activities of industrial plants influence the identity of the local community. Located in the southwestern part of Wola, Odolany is surrounded by railway lines, further emphasizing its importance as a transport hub.
