wikipedia
Dobra is a village located in the picturesque region of the Beskid Wyspowy in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship. It is characterized by diverse natural conditions, with the upper areas around the peaks covered in coniferous forests, while the lower parts feature mixed forests dominated by beeches and firs. The soils in this region are relatively infertile, which highlights the uniqueness of local agriculture. The village has rich religious traditions, serving as the seat of the Parish of Our Lady of the Scapular, which oversees two churches, including a historic wooden church dedicated to the Holy Apostles Simon and Jude Thaddeus. The history of Dobra dates back to the 14th century, when the village was first mentioned in a document from 1361, and its owners were knights from the Ratołd family. Over the centuries, Dobra changed hands multiple times, including transfers to well-known noble families, and the local community grew as a result of Vlach settlement. In the 16th century, thanks to Jan Pieniążek, the village became significantly more populated, and he himself contributed to the first forms of popular education. At the turn of the 18th century, Dobra came under Austrian partition, and in the 19th century, it experienced a cholera epidemic. During World War I, skirmishes took place involving the Austro-Hungarian and Russian armies. The village offers tourists attractive hiking and cycling trails, as well as a convenient base for exploring nearby peaks. It is also worth noting the local infrastructure, including a disused railway line and a historic viaduct. Dobra is not only a place with beautiful landscapes but also one with a rich history and full of local cultural attractions.
