The commune of Stara Kornica, located in the Masovian Voivodeship and part of the Łosice County, has a rich history dating back to the period before World War I, when it was part of the Kornica commune in the Konstantynów County. The commune has undergone numerous administrative changes, including belonging to various voivodeships, and on January 1, 1973, it was reestablished as the commune of Stara Kornica. The area of the commune is 119.33 km², with a predominance of agricultural land (82%) and forests (12%), making it a region of great importance for agriculture. Demographic data shows that in 2004, the commune had 4,989 inhabitants, and by the end of 2017, this number had decreased to 4,849. The mayors of the commune since 2002 have been Franciszek Kałużny, Kazimierz Hawryluk, and since 2024, Beata Jerzman. The commune includes numerous villages, such as Czeberaki, Kiełbaski, and Stara Kornica, as well as the locality of Zabagnie, which does not have village status.
