Stary Lubotyń is a rural commune located in the Masovian Voivodeship, within the Ostrów County. Its administrative seat is the village of Stary Lubotyń. The commune was transformed from the former Ostrołęka Voivodeship following the administrative reform that took place between 1975 and 1998. As of the end of 2019, it had a population of 3,707. The commune covers an area of 10,949 hectares, a significant portion of which is agricultural land (8,532 hectares) and forest land (1,721 hectares). According to demographic data, in 1921 the commune had 4,176 inhabitants, with a dominant number of Roman Catholics and a small representation of other denominations. The social structure has undergone changes over the years, and the commune includes many villages, such as Budziski, Chmielewo, Gawki, and Stary Turobin. Stary Lubotyń and its surroundings have an agricultural character, and the proximity of forests creates picturesque landscapes.
