wikipedia
Stary Dwór, formerly known as Altenhof, is a sołectwo (administrative village) in Poland, located in the Lubusz Voivodeship, within Międzyrzecz County. Its history dates back to the Middle Ages, presumably to around 1256, when it was established as a manor farm. In the past, the village was owned by the Cistercian abbot from the monastery in Paradyż. The historical significance of Stary Dwór is underscored by its medieval origins, with records mentioning it as early as the 15th century. The village was originally part of Greater Poland, making it a region with a rich political and cultural history. Today, it has a population of approximately 360 residents and is characterized by its charming surroundings, including farmland and forested areas. Notable natural attractions include the nearby Natura 2000 protected area, Dolina Leniwej Obry, valued for its biodiversity, as well as Lake Wyszanowskie, a popular recreational spot. Architecturally, Stary Dwór is known for its 18th-century manor, the Church of St. Lawrence built in the 1930s, and preserved historical remnants such as the church wall and a chapel in the cemetery. Local organizations, such as the "Nasza Wieś Jutro" Association, are actively involved in community development. An interesting historical note is that in 1768, the church hosted a secret meeting of Bar Confederation leaders, highlighting the village’s role in regional history. After World War II, the village was repopulated by Polish settlers, and its cultural life was closely tied to parish activities, which organized various events. Despite challenges following the political changes of 1989, the residents of Stary Dwór continue to work for their community while preserving connections to the area’s rich history and traditions.
