Olesno, known in German as Rosenberg, is a town located in the Opole Voivodeship, with a history that blends rich cultural and architectural heritage dating back to prehistoric times. The first mention of Olesno dates back to 1226, and the town developed thanks to its favorable location near important trade routes. Olesno was granted town rights in 1275 and became the seat of a castellany, which contributed to its economic growth. Preserved landmarks, such as the Gothic St. Michael's Church from 1374 and the Baroque wooden St. Anne's Church from 1518, reflect the architecture of different eras, while the town hall, now a museum, testifies to the historical diversity of urban buildings. In the 19th century, Olesno became an important industrial center with numerous weaving workshops and trading posts, leading to the development of local culture and identity. During the interwar period, the town became a site of Polish independence efforts, culminating in the First and Third Silesian Uprisings. After World War II, Olesno had to face the consequences of war damage but gradually began rebuilding its identity. Today, the town is a dynamic hub, offering residents a well-developed educational infrastructure, including kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools, and technical colleges. The cultural life of Olesno revolves around the Municipal Cultural Center, the museum, and organized events such as the Days of Olesno.
