wikipedia
Oleski County, established in 1999 as part of the administrative reform, is located in the northeastern part of the Opole Voivodeship, with its seat in the town of Olesno. It includes urban-rural municipalities such as Dobrodzień, Gorzów Śląski, Olesno, and Praszka, as well as rural municipalities: Radłów, Rudniki, and Zębowice. Historically, most of the county lies within Upper Silesia, while a part encompasses the land of Wieluń. In the 19th century, the area was predominantly inhabited by Polish-speaking people, highlighting the region's rich cultural heritage. According to demographic data, the county had a population of 64,293 in 2019, which decreased to 64,167 by the end of June 2020. Historical population data from 1865 is also noteworthy, indicating that 85% of the population were Catholics. Architecturally, the area is distinguished by its monuments and buildings that reflect its rich cultural and historical heritage. Olesno and other towns have preserved many traces of the past, making them interesting destinations on the region's tourist map. Former county administrators, such as Jan Kus and Stanisław Belka, contributed to the development of local governance, and the current administrator, Bożena Konarska-Markiewicz, has taken on further developmental challenges. Oleski County borders several other counties, fostering cooperation and cultural exchange. It is a region with a rich history, diverse demographics, and unique characteristics that make it a significant part of the Opole Voivodeship.
