Olsztyn is an urban-rural municipality in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, within the Częstochowa County, established in 1867. The municipality originally included villages such as Biskupice, Borowa, and Bukowno, with its seat in Olsztyn, which was a rural municipality until December 31, 2021, when it gained town rights. During the interwar period, the municipality was part of the Kielce Voivodeship, and after World War II, the pre-war administrative division was restored. From 1975 to 1998, Olsztyn belonged to the Częstochowa Voivodeship and later to the Silesian Voivodeship. The municipality covers an area of 109.1 km², of which 48% is agricultural land and 44% is forested. According to 2015 data, the municipality of Olsztyn has a population of 7,966 people. The area is characterized by a diversity of localities, such as Biskupice, Bukowno, and Zrębice. Olsztyn boasts numerous tourist attractions, including historic buildings and picturesque forest areas, which draw visitors. From a historical perspective, Olsztyn was part of the Kingdom of Poland and has undergone numerous administrative changes over the years. It is an important area with a rich history, including its role during World War II as part of the General Government.
