Olszynka is a village located in the Opole Voivodeship, in the Prudnik County, in Upper Silesia, near the border with the Czech Republic. The village boasts a rich historical heritage dating back to medieval times, with the first mentions from 1379. Numerous historical monuments have been preserved in Olszynka, including a 14th-century rural layout and an 18th/19th-century manor and farm complex, which consists of a manor house, a cowshed, and various farm buildings. In the center of the village, there is a palace park from 1840, which is an important element of the local landscape.
Olszynka was once inhabited by a German population, which is reflected in the architecture and culture of the locality. After World War II, the village became a settlement for Polish repatriates, which influenced the change in the character of the community. Olszynka has cultural traditions associated with its former German-speaking inhabitants, and today it continuously integrates the local community through cultural and sports activities, for example, through the local football club LZS Olszynka. The village is home to the Catholic Church of Our Lady of the Angels, which plays an important religious role.
Olszynka is also well-connected, with bus links to other towns in the region. Designated cycling routes in the area attract tourists. The village has the character of a peaceful rural area, but due to its proximity to the Czech border, it is also under the surveillance of the Border Guard. This adds an interesting aspect, as well as a security dimension for local residents.
Olszynka is becoming increasingly popular in regional renewal programs, which contributes to its growing attractiveness. It is known for numerous initiatives, such as the erection of a jubilee cross to mark the millennium year and participation in the Opole Village Renewal Program. The village is a place with a rich history, interesting features, and tourist potential, making it an intriguing point on the map of Silesia.
