Ostrów Mazowiecka

Ostrów Mazowiecka is a town in the Masovian Voivodeship with a rich history dating back to the 14th century. It was granted town rights in 1434, which contributed to the dynamic development of the settlement. In the 17th century, the town hosted sessions of the regional parliament (sejmik) and served as an important administrative center. The town's architecture features notable landmarks, such as the 19th-century Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a wooden chapel from 1830, a neo-baroque town hall built in 1927, and an early 20th-century market hall. Ostrów Mazowiecka also boasts a unique cultural heritage, thanks to the activities of the Municipal Cultural Center, which organizes diverse artistic events, and the Museum – Home of the Pilecki Family, opened in 2022, commemorating Witold Pilecki, a renowned cavalry captain and resistance hero. The town has a vibrant theater scene, hosts concerts, and is home to several music groups. Ostrów Mazowiecka is an attractive tourist destination, situated amidst the forests of the Puszcza Biała (White Wilderness) with cycling routes that encourage outdoor activities. The town endured difficult times during World War II, when it was heavily destroyed, but after 1945, it experienced revitalization and industrial growth, including furniture factories and electronics manufacturers. Today, Ostrów Mazowiecka is known for its sports activities, supported by the Municipal Sports and Recreation Center, as well as its broad educational offerings, encompassing primary and secondary schools. The town collaborates with international partners, and its residents prioritize the development of culture, sports, and tourism, making Ostrów Mazowiecka a place with a unique character and rich heritage.
