Palace in Piekary

Piekary Palace, located in the Kraków County, in the municipality of Liszki, was built on the site of an earlier manor house belonging to the Żeleński family by Alfred Milieski between 1857 and 1865. The building, designed in the Neo-Gothic style with Renaissance Revival elements by Filip Pokutyński, is adorned with numerous small turrets and one octagonal viewing tower that once stored valuables. Together with its surrounding park, it forms a palace-park complex. After Alfred Milieski's death, the estate passed to his son Witold, but in 1934, due to debts, it was sold to the Braun family. During World War II, the palace served as the headquarters of the German authorities, and after the war, the estate was nationalized. Over the following years, it housed various institutions, including the Herbology Technical School and the Dr. Józef Babiński Specialist Hospital. In 1995, the palace was sold to private individuals, which sparked protests from the Braun family heirs, leading to an ongoing legal dispute. It is worth noting that the palace and its surroundings, including the remains of a granary and an orangery, are listed in the register of historical monuments of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, underscoring its cultural and historical significance. With its rich history and fascinating architecture, Piekary Palace stands as both an example of Neo-Gothic style and a testament to regional social and economic transformations.
