wikipedia
Piątkowo, a district of Poznań, consists of the Piątkowo housing estate and the Jan III Sobieski and Marysieńka estates. Built primarily with apartment blocks, these estates are comparable in character and scale to the Rataje and Chartowo districts. The first historical mention of Piątkowo dates back to 1253, and its history includes the founding of a Dominican convent by Przemysł II and German colonization in the 19th century, which contributed to the settlement's development. During the interwar period, Piątkowo became a center of Polish culture, serving the local community through events such as concerts. In 1973, the district was incorporated into Poznań, and in the following decades, housing estates were built in the area. The architecture of Piątkowo from the 1970s is dominated by large-panel system blocks, though buildings in traditional styles are also being constructed. Within Piątkowo lies the Jan III Sobieski Station, which serves tram and bus transportation. The district is also home to five Roman Catholic parishes, grouped within the Poznań-Piątkowo deanery. Piątkowo boasts a rich array of cultural, historical, and educational attractions, with numerous schools and institutions. Two radio and television towers are also noteworthy, one of which, built in 1993, stands 128 meters tall. Additionally, in the southern part of Piątkowo lies the historic Fort Va, which formed part of Poznań's defense system.
