Piła County, established in 1999 as part of Poland's administrative reform, is part of the Greater Poland Voivodeship, with its seat in the city of Piła. It is characterized by the highest urbanization rate among the rural counties of this voivodeship, reaching 65.1% in 2009. The county includes urban, urban-rural, and rural municipalities, with towns such as Piła, Kaczory, Łobżenica, Miasteczko Krajeńskie, Ujście, Wyrzysk, and Wysoka. According to data from the end of 2019, the county was inhabited by 136,112 people, of which 34.5% were residents of rural areas, the lowest rate in the voivodeship. Piła County also records a relatively low unemployment rate, which stood at 4.2% in 2019. In terms of transportation, the county has a well-developed rail and road network, with key national and voivodeship roads, as well as planned expressways. In the northwestern part of Piła, there is an airport used by the Aeroklub Ziemi Pilskiej, and there are plans to transform it into a regional airport. The county borders several others, including Złotów, Wągrowiec, and Wałcz. An interesting aspect is its international cooperation with the Schwalm-Eder district, which may foster cultural exchange and regional development. Piła County, with its rich history and dynamic development, is an important element of the socio-economic life of Greater Poland.
