Piastowski Park in Chojnów, located on Chmielowe Wzgórze (Hop Hill), is the largest recreational area in the city. It was established in 1885 on the initiative of Mayor Richard Müller and designed by landscape architect Eduard Petzold. The park's boundaries are defined by the surrounding streets and buildings, and its history dates back to a time when the city began expanding beyond its former fortifications. The park features a variety of avenues, primarily lined with oaks and linden trees, and its diverse terrain, with numerous hills and valleys, makes it an attractive destination for walks and outdoor activities.
The most significant architectural structure is the water tower from 1915, built using modern reinforced concrete technology for that era, which served both technical and touristic purposes. Over the years, Piastowski Park, which had suffered from degradation, was enhanced with modern sports facilities, including a complex of sports fields and outdoor gyms. Its recreational appeal is further supported by a natural sledding track and playgrounds. In the central part of the park, there is a stone monument commemorating German soldiers from World War I.
After World War II, the park was renamed Piastowski Park, and despite the name change, many historical elements were preserved. From 2016 to 2023, a revitalization of the park was planned to improve its infrastructure and restore its attractiveness, which could become an important part of the cultural and recreational life of Chojnów's residents.
